A four person, all female band started by Studio Runtime. ZONE was the first of a new genre known as "bandol", a combination of band and idol. They released their first single in 1999 called "believe in love." In 2002, they became the winners of the the Japan Gold Disk New Artist of the Year. They are best remembered by their hit single "Kimi ga kureta mono ~ Secret Base."
ZONE will forever remain in my memories as the band that got me started on Japanese music when I unexpectedly happened across a video of their "Secret Base" performance at Kouhaku. Since then, I have always been impressed with their music and lyrics (accredited to composer Norihiko Machida), Miyu's spectacular vocals, their distinct and unique combination of personalities, and ability to play instruments and just rock out.

Brief Comments:
I often find myself torn between this song and Issho Ni Itakatta. I don't know why but the tune and tone seems vaguely similar between the two. My favorite is listening to a trio of this song, Issho Ni Itakatta and Orenji no Yuuhi. great stuff.

Lyrics:
soba ni ita atarimae no you ni ushinau koto nai to omoi
you were beside me, as if it were natural; I thought I'd never lose you
dakara sayonara iwareta nara utsuru subete hai iro ni naru
that's why, if you say goodbye, everything would become projected in an ashen gray
ushinatte kizuita sono taisetsusa wo mune ni shimiru hodo ni kanjita yo
losing you, I had realized; the extent of the preciousness that pierced my heart I felt
shiawase sugite kizikazu ni ita takusan no nukumori kanjite
being extraordinarily happy, I hadn't noticed how much warmth I feel
shiawase sugite wasurete ita ne yasashisa ni tsutsumareta koto
being extraordinarily happy, I had forgotten the gentleness I was enveloped in
kimi no kage itsumo sagashiteru toori sugiru hito no nami
always, in the transcending wave of humanity, I'm searching for a glimpse of you
kimi no shigusa omoi kaesu ugoku subete jikan ga tatazumu
thinking back upon your habits, all your movements all made time stand still
shiawase sugite kizikazu ni ita takusan no nukumori kanjite
being extraordinarily happy, I hadn't noticed how much warmth I feel
shiawase sugite wasurete ita ne yasashisa ni tsutsumareta koto
being extraordinarily happy, I had forgotten the gentleness I was enveloped in
ano hi no kimi ga oshiete kureta hito wo aisuru kono omoi wo
On that distant day that you had taught me this feeling of loving someone
ushinatte kara kizuita koto no omosa kanji namida koboreru
having lost so much, the feeling of this heavy realization brings my tears to overflow
shiawase sugite kizikazu ni ita takusan no nukumori kanjite
being extraordinarily happy, I hadn't noticed how much warmth I feel
shiawase sugite wasurete ita ne yasashisa ni tsutsumareta koto
being extraordinarily happy, I had forgotten the gentleness I was enveloped in
