ZONE

official website: http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Music/Info/ZONE/

A four person, all female band started by Studio Runtime. ZONE was the first of a new genre known as "bandol", a combination of band and idol. They released their first single in 1999 called "believe in love." In 2002, they became the winners of the the Japan Gold Disk New Artist of the Year. They are best remembered by their hit single "Kimi ga kureta mono ~ Secret Base."

ZONE will forever remain in my memories as the band that got me started on Japanese music when I unexpectedly happened across a video of their "Secret Base" performance at Kouhaku. Since then, I have always been impressed with their music and lyrics (accredited to composer Norihiko Machida), Miyu's spectacular vocals, their distinct and unique combination of personalities, and ability to play instruments and just rock out.

Brief Comments:
the theme song for the release of the movie "Ice Age" in Japan. A happy, uplifting song, I just love the imagery of its lyrics.

Lyrics:
heya no akari wo subete keshite mado kara mieru natsu no yoru
turning off all the lights in my room, from the window I can see the summer night

hoshi ga sasayaki yasashii kaze ga tsutsumikonde kokoro wo sasou
the stars whisper and the gentle breeze engulfs me, calling out to my heart

tomadoi tsuzukete
continuing to lose my way

sunao ni narezu ni ita kedo
unable to be honest with myself

yasashisa ni hajimete deatta koro wa
experiencing kindness for the first time, when that chance encounter took place

kono mune no oku ga hagayuku kanji
in the depths of my heart there was a unsettling feeling

nazeka hitoshizuku no namida ga hoho wo
somehow, a single teardrop

sotto tsutawatta yo
softly trickled down my cheek

sore wa anata ga kokoro no naka ni... fureta no
for you had touched the inside of my heart

futto kizuku to tooku mieteta sora wa akaruku atatakakute
Suddenly realizing it, it appeared so distant; the sky was bright and warm

ryoute nobashite dakishimeteta mayoi mo fuan mo kiete ita
reaching out with both hands you had held me close; my doubts and worries had vanished altogether

anata no sonzai ga
just you being there

subete wo umetsukushite ita
had buried everything completely

zutto soba ni itai to omou kimochi wa
the thoughts of wanting to remain beside you are

tsugitsugi to afure osaekirezu ni
one by one, overflowing uncontrollably

shizen to sunao ni ima kawaru jibun ga
changing to be honest and natural I

tsutaetai omoi...
want to follow those feeling...

sore wa anata ga kokoro no naka ni... iru kara
that is...because you are in my heart

» Civil_Acrimony: I love this song as well because of how it heavily emphasizes (as well as shows off) Maiko's vocal abilities
