A four person, all female band started by Studio Runtime. ZONE was the first of a new genre known as "bandol", a combination of band and idol. They released their first single in 1999 called "believe in love." In 2002, they became the winners of the the Japan Gold Disk New Artist of the Year. They are best remembered by their hit single "Kimi ga kureta mono ~ Secret Base."
ZONE will forever remain in my memories as the band that got me started on Japanese music when I unexpectedly happened across a video of their "Secret Base" performance at Kouhaku. Since then, I have always been impressed with their music and lyrics (accredited to composer Norihiko Machida), Miyu's spectacular vocals, their distinct and unique combination of personalities, and ability to play instruments and just rock out.

Lyrics:
風にのって踊る光の粒
kaze ni notte odoru hikari no tsubu
riding on the wind, dance particles of light
緑の匂い小鳥のさえずり
midori no nioi kodori no saezuri
the smell of greenery and birds' song
車の音さえとどかないよ
kuruma no oto sae todokanai yo
the sound of the cars, they can't reach us
守られた場所 妖精たちが笑ってる
mamorareta basho youseitachi ga waratteru
a secluded place, where the faerie folk laugh
少し疲れちゃった 慣れない靴を履いているから
sukoshi tsukarechatta narenai kutsu wo haite iru kara
wearing unfamiliar shoes, I've become a little worn out
馴染んでゆくかしら 痛みをこらえて
najinde yuku kashira itami wo koraete
I wonder if I'll grow accustomed to them; while enduring the pain
だれかください この胸ふるわす言葉を
dareka kudasai, kono mune furuwasu kotoba wo
someone give to me words that would stir my soul
ビル風に吹かれて やさしさ忘れてしまいそう
biru kaze ni fukarete yasashisa wasurete shimaisou
the blowing of the wind through the buildings make me feel as though I'll forget kindness
少しずつ友達増えてくけど みんな自分のこと精一杯
sukoshizutsu tomodachi fueteku kedo minna jibun no koto seiippai
although, I gain friends, little by little; everyone is occupied with their own lives
本音をだしたら負けてしまう ウソにウソを重ねて背負いきれない
honne wo dashitara makete shimau uso ni uso wo kasanete seoikirenai
If I offered my true feelings, I'd lose out; lies pile upon lies, making it difficult to live
ベンチでひと休み 合わない靴を履いているかな
benchi de hitoyasumi awanai kutsu wo haite iru kana
resting upon a bench, I wonder if these are the wrong shoes for me
歩き続けたいよ 涙をこらえて
aruki tsuzuketai yo namida wo koraete
I want to continue walking while holding back tears; in this ashen town, the warmth is subsiding
もっとください この身を切るような言葉を
motto kudasai kono mi wo kiru you na kotoba wo
someone give to me words that would stir my soul
灰色の街に ぬくもり冷めてしまいそう
haiiro no machi ni nukumori samete shimaisou
the blowing of the wind through the buildings make me feel as though I'll forget kindness
だれかください この胸ふるわす言葉を
dareka kudasai kono mune furuwasu kotoba wo
someone give to me words that would stir my soul
ビル風に吹かれて やさしさ忘れてしまいそう
biru kaze ni fukarete yasashisa wasurete shimaisou
the blowing of the wind through the buildings make me feel as though I'll forget kindness
Translation Notes:
A lot of the translated lines were borrowed heavily from Ryuichi's translation(see below for link).
Reason for this being that I think for this song, his translated phrases were just superb for a lot of the lines. I honestly don't think I could come up with better translations for some of the lines.
