Otsuka Ai
Otsuka Ai (大塚愛)

official website: http://www.avexnet.or.jp/ai/

Although her first single "Momo no Hanabira" (桃ノ花ビラ) was released in September of 2003, it wasn't until her 2nd single Sakuranbo (さくらんぼ) that she became a sensation. As of 2006, she has released a total of 3 albums as well as numerous singles. She also starred in in the drama "Tokyo Friends."

At the moment of this writing, she is one of my favorite artists; mainly due to a unique combination of her lyrics, song composition, and personality. My personal favorites among her compositions are Haneari Tamago (羽ありたまご), Amaenbo (甘えんぼ) and Friends (フレンズ).

Lyrics:
ano hoshi wo goran kimi wo mamoru hikari
look at that star; the light that protects you

mada momiji no youna te datta koro
when your hand was still like a maple leaf

itsu datte kimi no atama no ue ni wa
above you always

aishite kureru hikari ga aru
there is a light that loves you

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!

yagate yume wo idaki hito wo aishite
eventually you will embrace dreams and fall in love

donna namida wo nagashite kitadarou
what type of tears did you shed?

gyuzen kimi ni deaeta koto ni
let's secretly toast to

hisoka na kanpai wo shiyou
the fact that i met you serendipitously

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
